The Sapling Package

Hey there, friend!

So you've been at this for a while: you've maybe dabbled in a few of your manual settings and tinkered with Lightroom. You get the "gist," but you still find yourself editing differently each time, not quite sure which settings to use for different light.

Generally speaking, you're just feeling "okay" about your photography. But you know it could be much, much more.

I was in that zone of "meh" with my photography for years! And it felt like no matter what I tried, my images just never quite reflected my vision.

So let me tell you that I mean it when I say this: you do NOT have to feel "meh" anymore. Why should you? There's no reason to! You have the tools and the passion-- literally ALL you need is that last little push to learn those finite skills that will unlock all your creative juices (maybe a weird mixed metaphor, but you get me, right?).

If you'll let me, I can help you dive into the root of your frustration and start giving you practical tools for how to overcome the "meh." Here's what we'll cover in three 60-minute calls of The Sapling Package:

Week One: Your Inspiration

Every student starts out by working through my Instagram Aesthetic Method. Whether you’re using Instagram or not, this workbook is an excellent way of gauging how you want to express yourself as a photographer. We will go through the results of your workbook, and from there, I will advise you on how to start practicing in your desired aesthetic vein. With the camera knowledge that you already have, we will focus specifically on looking for colour, texture, and light, with an emphasis on how to frame those elements in a variety of ways so that you can work out what framing models suit you best.

Week Two: Your Shooting Workflow

Presuming that you already grasp the basics of all of your manual settings, we will dive deeper into which settings you should focus on in any given lighting situation, and we'll tailor it to the colours and light that you often come across in your general surroundings. We can fast-track your workflow when you're out shooting so that you can come home with a variety of images that highlight different elements of a scene. This variety will allow for more flexibility when editing.

Week Three: Your Editing Workflow

In this final week, we will take your homework images and upload them into Lightroom. I will immediately dive into the finite tools of the Tone Curve, the HSL slider, and the more specific exposure tools. We will try out different editing combinations in an attempt to emulate your ideal aesthetic. We will compare the editing results from images shot at different settings to see if a particular manual formula suits your editing needs. Finally, we will compare the results from your Aesthetic Method workbook to determine where we have succeeded in pinpointing your style and where you can continue to focus your development.

Are you ready to jump into your photography journey?

What you'll need:

  • A DSLR or a camera phone that allows for manual setting adjustments— you absolutely must have access to camera equipment that will allow you to adjust your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.

  • At least six hours to commit to the program over the course of three weeks (a one-hour call each week and one hour of photography homework each week).

  • Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Lightroom Mobile App— yes, there are loads of great mobile editing apps, but Lightroom is the most powerful, the most intuitive, and the most finite suite to help you develop your skills as a photographer and editor. Plus, Creative Cloud allows you to save presets on your desktop that can be uploaded to your Mobile App, so you can have consistent editing at home and on-the-go!

  • A printer to print off your Aesthetic Method Workbook.

  • A cute journal to take notes on our calls.

"I realized in working with Christina that I felt so frustrated in my photography because I wasn't really conveying who I am as a person. I didn't feel comfortable in my Instagram grid because it wasn't me. Now it's me. Fun, silly, encouraging, and inviting. I am forever grateful for Christina's coaching!"

Why work with me?

I will give you the perfect balance between developing an abstract, creative vision and developing practical, nuanced photography skills. Not only do I have four years of practical teaching experience (so I know how to listen to your struggles and adapt my teaching method accordingly) but I am guiding you through a process that I went through myself over the course of a decade. I am teaching from personal experience and helping you fast-track your photography workflow in a way that took me ten years to develop. Plus, we will have so much freaking fun together! ;)

Plus, bonuses!

(Because who doesn't love a little extra?)

ONLY my Sapling students get a BONUS 30-MINUTE SESSION where I show you how to custom-adjust a preset to suit your photographs in different lighting situations. This training will equip you to utilise any presets you may already have to the best of their potential within your aesthetic needs!
