"Don't fall in love with someone while you're off adventuring." That was the hypocritical advice I gave my sweet friend, Jo, when she moved to Abu Dhabi four years ago. Of course, I gave that advice knowing full well from my own experience that travel is the best happenstance for love.
And whoop-dee-doo... I was right. Not much time passed before Jo brought home a boy. A boy who incidentally laughed at all the same jokes that she laughed at and had the same twinkle in his eye when he smiled. As Dumbledore says, “Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” Adventure brought me to my fella, and so it brought romance to another lovely pair.
Fast-forward to this Spring, and I receive a knock on my door from Jo's dad, who presented me with a balloon and a toothpick. I popped the balloon, collected some confetti off the ground, and found a little slip of paper asking me if I'd be a bridesmaid. As if I'd say no!
Just like I couldn't say no when Jo planned an adorable carnival picnic for me to take cutesy shots of her and her fella before their castle-themed wedding next month.
In the short space of time that her and Rob have been back on our little green island, we threw together this shoot in our local park, and let me tell you, it was the easiest, sweetest, and most fun shoot I've ever done. I didn't have to tell them to "look natural" or "act in love." Because they so very much are already. And nothing makes my camera glow more than being able to document the love of two people who I already love so much. This was less of a shoot than it was a pure celebration.
Rob & Jo, you are a joy to spend time with. Your smiles and your love bring something special into the world. I'm so glad you two found each other. Congratulations on making the best promises of your lives, and thanks for letting me capture a little moment of your forever.
